German Army announces new land forces digitization systems center
The German Army has announced its intention to open a land forces digitization systems center by 2023 to boost its Digitisation of Land Based Operations (D-LBO) tactical communications program.
The centre, comprised in a new development in Munster, will focus on supporting the digitisation and implementation of land forces as well as co-operation with the Dutch Ministry of National Defence, NATO and the EU.
The German and Dutch ministries of defence (MoD) signed in June a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to align the D-LBO and Foxtrot tactical communications programmes into the Tactical Edge Networking (TEN) concept.
The grand master plan is to have NATO members share military networks, so new and improved joint standards can be developed and deployed across all NATO members.
TEN will be headquartered in Koblenz, Germany, and there will also be a design and prototype center at the Bernard Barracks in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
In the begging, TEN will merge communications between the German army’s (Bundeswehr) land-based operations (D-LBO) and the Dutch Ministry of Defence’s ‘FOXTROT’ tactical communications program, used by the Dutch military.
