Israel’s Rafael demonstrates Drone Dome laser intercepts

Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has shown in a video its Drone Dome counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system that uses a laser to destroy commercial drones.
The Drone Dome system is an innovative end-to-end C-UAS solution that aims to secure a country’s air space from hostile drones and small UAS.
The solution offers a modular and robust infrastructure, comprised of electronic jammers and sensors that allow for effective detection, full identification and neutralization of multiple Micro and Mini UAV threats employing its unique algorithms.
Interception stages includes target detection, identification, and interception with a high-power LASER beam.
“The system achieved 100% success in all test scenarios,” Rafael said in a statement.
Six of the Refael systems were recently sold to the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) in an estimated $20 million deal, according to Israel’s Globes financial daily.

In December 2019 Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) revealed details about another innovative laser system that could help quash the scourge of airborne incendiary devices launched from the Gaza Strip — carried by kites, balloons and drones — which have started countless fires and burned large swaths of land near the border.
