Xi Jinping and Angela Merkel discuss the future of EU-China relations

Chinese resident Xi Jinping held a phone call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss economic stability, the role of the World Health Organization (WHO) and development.

Germany will take the EU Council presidency in the second half of 2020.

Xi Jinping stressed the fact that the fundamentals of China’s economic stability and long-term improvement have not changed. 

“We will unswervingly promote opening to the outside world and expand cooperation with the world. We are willing to continue to create a good environment for German companies to expand investment in China,” he said. 

Recently, the “Express Channel” initiative between China and Germany was officially launched, which aims to help companies in both countries to speed up the resumption of production and production and maintain the stability of the international industrial chain and supply chain.

Xi Jinping said that China appreciated the German government’s objective and rational stand and respect for scientific attitudes on the epidemic situation and added that Bejing is willing to work with Germany to jointly support the work of WHO and promote international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations (UN) and the G20; jointly support African countries in combating the epidemic and contribute to maintaining global public health security. 

“China appreciates that Germany is willing to actively promote the development of China-EU relations, is willing to strengthen strategic cooperation with Germany and the EU, adhere to multilateralism, respond to global challenges, and jointly increase certainty for an uncertain world,” he said.  

Merkel said that Germany attaches great importance to the plans made by the two associations on economic and social development, and is willing to work with China to promote the resumption of production and production while continuing to prevent and control the epidemicc and continue to deepen economic cooperation between Germany and China.

Germany is willing to maintain close communication with China, advance the important agendas of Germany, China and Europe, and push the relationship between Germany, China and Europe to a higher level. 

Germany is willing to strengthen exchanges with China and continue to support WHO in playing an important role in promoting international public health and safety cooperation.

Thus was the third call since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.
